Business Meeting Minutes

 

The Brevard Soil and Water Conservation District met in a regular public session on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, at 4:00 P.M., at Agricultural Center, 3695 Lake Drive, Cocoa, FL 32926

 

Board Members Present:         Bud Crisafulli, Chair

                                                      Billy Kempfer, Secretary

                                                      Chris McMaster, Treasurer

 

Staff Members Present:           Derrick Wyle, USDA NRCS, District Conservationist

                                                        Beth Shephard, UF/IFAS Brevard County Ext. Director

                                                        Joe Walter, UF/IFAS Brevard County Agricultural Agent

                                                      Keith Newman, UF/IFAS Ag Program Assistant

The meeting was called to order at 4:17 P.M. by Bud C., who asked Chris M., Treasurer, to chair the meeting.  

 

Treasurer’s Report:

The current budget remains at $49,562.79. All financially required paperwork will be completed.

Bud C. motioned to approve, and Billy K. seconded it. Motion carried 3-0.

 

Review and Approval of Minutes for the prior Board of Supervisors meeting:

Bud C. motioned to approve, and Billy K. seconded it. March Minutes were approved 3-0.

 

Guest/Staff updates:

 

Brevard County UF/IFAS Extension Director, Beth Shephard:

a.       Beth talked about 4-H Fair donations for $500.00.

1.      Motion to approve a payment of $500.00 to the 4-H Fair. Billy K. Seconded. Motion passed 3-0.

b.      Beth spoke about a future project involving Hydro/Aquaponics. Item was tabled for the next meeting.

c.       Beth presented and informed the board about re-election procedures and paperwork. The board then discussed future election options.

 

District Conservationist, Derrick Wyle:

a.       Derrick W. reports that five high tunnels were approved for $95,000, 12 stewards program contracts were approved for $399,000, the Equip program had no approvals yet, and Brevard and Seminole County had 50 applications combined for a total of $1.53 million.

b.      Priorities were discussed for the Local Working Group. A final list in order of importance will be shown and approved at the next meeting.

c.       Discussed letter of compliance assistance from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

 

Brevard County UF/IFAS Agricultural Agent, Joe Walter:

a.       Nothing to report.

 

Brevard County UF/IFAS Agricultural Program Assistant, Keith Newman:

a.       Keith gave an update on the Canaveral Marshes project.

 

Old Business

a.       Funding for Brevard County UF/IFAS Extension programs was tabled for next month’s meeting.

 

New Business

a.       N/A

 

Open Discussion

a.       The Brevard County Water Supply Facilities Work Plan will be moved to next month.

 

 

The meeting was moved to adjourn by Billy K. and seconded by Chris M. Motion passed at 5:15 P.M.
