Business Meeting Minutes

 

The Brevard Soil and Water Conservation District met in a regular public session on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024, at 4:00 P.M., at Agricultural Center, 3695 Lake Drive, Cocoa, FL 32926

 

Board Members Present:                  Bud Crisafulli, Chair

                                                               Chris McMasters, Treasurer

                                                               Jim Fletcher, Supervisor

                                                               Billy Kempfer, Secretary

                                                               Brian Fleming, Vice-Chairman

 

Staff Members Present:                    Derrick Wyle, USDA NRCS, District Conservationist

                                                                Joe Walter, UF IFAS Brevard County Agricultural Agent

                                                              Keith Newman, UF IFAS Ag Program Assistant

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Bud C.

 

 

Review and Approval of the Current Treasurer’s Report

The balance of the account is $49,562.79 after all checks have cleared.  The treasurer's report was approved. One payment of $100.00 must be paid later in the month.

Billy K. motioned to approve the payment, which Chris M seconded. Motion carried 5-0.

 

Review and Approval of Minutes for the prior Board of Supervisors meeting

The December and January Minutes were approved.

 

Joe W. introduced Keith N. as the new Ag Program Assistant.

 

District Conservationist Update

1.      Derrick W. informed the board that NCRS had $63,000 in payouts. $41,000 of it was used for two contracts in Brevard County.

2.      Derrick informed the board that the NCRS had posted information about the upcoming Local Working Groups. There was much discussion on the topic. The board decided to have Brevard’s Local Working Group meeting immediately after next month's Soil and Water Board meeting.

 

Old Business

a.       The long-range plan was moved to be discussed at a later meeting.

b.      The board liked what was presented and decided to give more time to add programs if IFAS wanted to.  They also asked if Beth would rank them by importance.

 

 

New Business

a.       Brian F. asked if anyone from the board had heard about a 10-year water plan for Brevard County. Brain F. was asked to investigate the plan.

 

Open Discussion

a.       The feasibility of running another AG tour was discussed. The board would like more information about having an AG Tour this year.

b.      Chris M. gave an update on the OPAGA audit.

c.       NCRS Local Working Groups was discussed during the District Conservationist Update.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 5:05 P.M. by Jim F.
