Business Meeting Minutes

 

The Brevard Soil and Water Conservation District met in a regular public session on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024, at 4:00 P.M., at Agricultural Center, 3695 Lake Drive, Cocoa, FL 32926

 

Board Members Present:         Bud Crisafulli, Chair

                                                      Brian Fleming, Vice-Chair

                                                      Billy Kempfer, Secretary

 

Staff Members Present:           Derrick Wyle, USDA NRCS, District Conservationist

                                                        Beth Shephard, UF/IFAS Brevard County Ext. Director

                                                        Joe Walter, UF/IFAS Brevard County Agricultural Agent

                                                      Keith Newman, UF/IFAS Ag Program Assistant

 

Guests Present:                         Raulie Raulerson, FDACS Environmental Administrator

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 P.M. by Bud C.  

 

Treasurer’s Report:

 

N/A

 

Review and Approval of Minutes for the prior Board of Supervisors meeting:

 

Verified information was accurately added.

Motioned by Billy K., 2nd by Brian F., Passed 3-0.

District Conservationist update:

 

Nine Contracts for Brevard County and two for Seminole County totaling $270,000. IRA totaling $1.1 Million.

 

UF/IFAS Extension update:

 

Discussed the success of the 4-H Poultry Auction.

 

Old Business:

 

a.       Long Range Plan.

Tabled

 

b.      UF/IFAS Extension Program.

A future project with Aqua/Hydroponics was discussed with a funding request of $5,000.

c.       Local Working Group priorities list.

Derrick discussed the results of the Local Working Group from Seminole County. The board compared the lists of Brevard and Seminole counties. Brevard’s results were very similar to Seminole County.

Additions to Agenda / Open Discussion:

 

a.       Brevard County Water Supply Facilities Work Plan - No Action

 

b.      Mobile Irrigation Lab and cost-share contracts from FDACS.

Raulie Raulerson discussed moving the administration of the Mobile Irrigation Lab to Brevard County and other cost-share contracts. The board requested more information to be provided. The next meeting (June 12th) will have a full presentation prepared by FDACS.

The meeting was moved to adjourn by Billy K., seconded by Brian F.; Motion passed at 5:15 P.M.
